Torbjørn Hobbel was born in 1951 in Norway. He took his M.A. at the University of Oslo in 1979, specialising in Nordic languages and literatures, history and the history of religion. From 1979 to 1994 he worked as a teacher in various colleges in the Oslo area. Since 1994 he has worked full time in Acem travelling and conducting courses and meditation retreats mostly in Scandinavia and India. He is Chairman to Acem India, which he founded in 1998.

He has practised Acem Meditation and yoga since he was 16 years old in 1967. He has been an instructor of Acem Meditation since 1971 and a meditation initiator since 1975. He has initiated more than 7000 people into meditation.

In 1973, Hobbel was trained as a communication group leader, a kind of social reflection developed in Acem since 1970, which helps one’s introspection and self-understanding.

He is an advisor to the Norsk Yoga-skole (Acem School of Yoga).

For 20 years Hobbel was editor of Dyade, a Scandinavian magazine focusing on topics within culture, psychology, philosophy and meditation. He is now on the board of Dyade.

He has published a number of articles on Acem Meditation and cultural topics.

Together with Are Holen he has written the book Yogaboken. Bevegelse og pust (Dyade forlag 2010. English edition 2012 Meditative Yoga – integrating body, breath and mind.)

An other book he has written is Impulsøvelser. Yoga i fri flyt (Dyade forlag 2011) about an unknown type of spontaneous yoga practise.

Many times he has arranged Acem Travels tours to the Indian Himalayas and South-India.

He is also developing websites for Acem.

Torbjørn Hobbel is living in Oslo with his wife Sigrun Hobbel (MA), who is also an Acem Meditation initiator. They have two children.
